Subject: P & R Commission Report on Park Theater: Apology
Just back in town, I want to add a public apology to the entire Parks and Rec Commission to my earlier private apology to Paula Maurano.
I am sorry for my somewhat intemperate remarks last Tuesday night, and for placing Chair Maurano in a position where she could not complete her report.
I hadn't known about the Special Meeting that had been called by the Commission, nor about Chair Maurano's report in advance, unlike that evening's reports from the Bicycle and Library Commissions.
The council immediately got the message loud and clear that the P & R commission had concerns about the Park Theater proposal. I appreciate the Commission's work and am pleased that Chair Maurano has subsequently posted the commission's motions on the City Council's web log.
What I would suggest is that IF the council subcommittee reports positive progress on negotiations, that the Park and Rec Commission schedule a Study Session so that staff, council subcommittee, the applicant, and interested members of the public can all attend and participate in a discusssion. We all make better decisions when all voices and viewpoints on an issue are part of the public dialogue.
