Oak Grove Pilot

Dear City Council Members,

In regard to transportation, our goal at Menlo-Atherton is to reduce the
number of cars that bring

students and staff to and from campus
by

 encourag
ing
the use of alternate means of travel, such as bik
ing,
 walking, car pools,
and
taking public transportation.
A reduction in cars increases safety, decreases congestion, and alleviates
parking issues.

We have increased bike parking on campus by 130 spots this year and added a
SamTrans route. As a school, we have been proactive and consistent in our
messaging to students, families, and staff to avoid single driver /
passenger trips to school. We have incentivized four walk n' roll to school
days, our next one being May 10th.

The
 Oak Grove project
will
encourage increased use of bikes by adding a safe and protected bike route
to our campus
.
While we understand that many in the neighborhood are concerned about the
reduction of parking spaces, we would hope that a safe bike route w
will
encourage people to discover more sustainable modes of transport and
reduce the number of vehicles on Oak Grove.

We will continue to support this pilot and hope to see the city move
forward with the project.

Sincerely,

Simone Kennel, Principal
