request for climate change action

Dear City Council,

My name is Cynthia Thickpenny and I am a resident of Menlo Park (94025). I
am emailing to ask if the City Council of Menlo Park would be interested in
joining the Compact of Mayors, which was launched by UN Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon (website linked below). I am not a representative of the
Compact, but just a citizen concerned about climate change and President
Trump's executive actions rolling back regulations. The Compact, and I
quote from the website, "establishes a common platform to capture the
impact of cities' collective actions through standardised measurement of
emissions and climate risk, and consistent, public reporting of their
efforts."

In our local area, San Francisco, Palo Alto, Cupertino, San Jose, and Santa
Cruz are members, however, I do not see Menlo Park listed on the website.

I am a young woman anxious about facing a lifetime of climate change and
disaster, and I am sure I am not alone in this. If Menlo Park joined the
compact, they could take part with other cities in being a joint leader in
combatting climate change.

Here is the website, with information for cities. I learned about the
compact through Wall of Us (in case that information is helpful):

  https://www.compactofmayors.org/history/

I do hope to hear back from the Council on this.

Many thanks, and with all best wishes,
Cynthia Thickpenny
