bike lane on Oak Grove

Hello --

I am a parent of 3 MPCSD students, one of whom bikes from our home in
Lorelei Manor to Hillview Middle School. Today, I heard that the proposed
Oak Grove bike boulevard pilot is being postponed because of concerns about
losing parking spaces. My 6th grader bikes through Lindenwood (to avoid
Ringwood), and down Oak Grove all the way to University. This stretch is
easily the most dangerous part of his route. On several occasions, I have
seen cars backing out into Oak Grove without looking and come close to
hitting one of the *many* young bike commuters -- and I've only biked in
with him a handful of times.

I always impress on my son the importance of following the rules of the
road, looking out for cars, and biking defensively rather than expecting
drivers to see or respect him. He is a careful and responsible biker.
However, the parking situation all the way down Oak Grove makes it
dangerous for these kids -- and other adult bike commuters as well.

Please reconsider postponing the pilot.

Thank you,

*Emily Moberg Robinson*
