Support Religious Ban

> Dear City Council of Menlo Park,
>
> I’m writing in strong support of Councilman Ray Mueller’s Proposed Ban on Religious Registry participation and Ban on Internment/Relocation Ordinance.
>
> Why?
> The new federal administration’s possible call for a registry based on faith, country of origin, or ethnic identification is a violation of human rights. Period.
> A violation of human rights on some of us is an attack on all of us. Muslim or not, our common humanity is under assault. Muslim or not, this is OUR problem.
> We must not let a dark period of American history repeat itself (or even come close to doing so). Decades ago, the United States government created a registry of Japanese Americans, then undertook mass relocations of Japanese Americans in internment camps. That feels unthinkable, doesn’t it? We must learn from our mistakes.
> This is to protect our neighbors, friends, fellow parents, doctors, teachers, colleagues, and more. Muslim or not, we must have their backs in times of crisis, just as we would expect them to do for us.
>
>
> I am proud to live in Menlo Park, engaged in the myriad issues our community faces, and I have taken leadership roles in a number of projects, including the Measure X campaign, SafeRoutes, and the Oak Knoll PTO (as room parent for the past three years). The City is part of our identity and daily lives. Times are changing, and our City must take swift action to preserve the human and community values we cherish here.
>
> Thank you for voting in support of the Ban on Religious Registry Participation and Ban on Internment/Relocation Ordinance.
>
> Sincerely,
>
