Win of the Week
"Silicon Valley Bike Vision" Outlines Steps to Get More People on Bikes

Last week, SVBC and Joint Venture Silicon Valley released "Silicon Valley Bike Vision, (http://jointventure.org/images/stories/pdf/2017-02-bike-vision.pdf) " at the State of the Valley Conference, a gathering of 1,500+ of Silicon Valley’s leaders.

The report outlines the possibilities, challenges, and next steps to make the bicycle a major mode of travel locally.

“If we want to continue to grow our economy, we’ve got no choice but to invest in more space-efficient modes of transportation,” mentioned consultant Jeff Tumlin, in an article (http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/news/2017/02/17/silicon-valley-san-jose-bike-commuting-google.html) by the Silicon Valley Business Journal about the report.

SVBC’s overarching goal is to get 10% of trips in San Mateo and Santa Clara County taken by bike. Though some cities individually are much closer, it is at 2% across the two counties.

This report will be an important tool for SVBC and other local bike advocates to generate support among business and government leaders, and will also be used as a guide to measure regional progress moving into the future.

San Mateo Co. Transportation Plan Updated in a Big Win for Residents, Bicyclists

The San Mateo Countywide Transportation Plan 2040 was formally adopted Feb. 9, with the caveat that County staff would bring back a proposed timeline and measurable targets for the plan. This is a HUGE win for San Mateo County residents and bicyclists. How? SVBC Policy Manager Emma Shlaes explains (https://bikesiliconvalley.org/2017/02/san-mateo-county-transportation-plan-will-include-measurable-targets/) .
