Re: Willows Cut-Through Traffic

Hi Brandon,

Thank you for your email. Last year after meeting with a number of Willows residents, I referred this item to the Transportation Commission and Transportation Staff. I also raised the issue at City Council numerous times last year. Recently during our goal setting meeting?, the City Council directed staff to include addressing the issue in our Council Goals for 2017. I also raised the issue again at the end of our last meeting and requested the Mayor send a letter to Google requesting the Willows neighborhood be removed from the Waze application.

I look forward to working with you and your neighbors to address this issue, and resolve it.

With best regards,
Ray??

Subject: Willows Cut-Through Traffic

Hi There!

My name is Brandon Knitter and I live in the Willows at 209 McKendry Dr. We are a 4 person family with one lovely son and one beautiful daughter. My family needs your help, please do something about cut-through traffic in the Willows, it's a safety issue!

We need a reduction in the number of cars traveling at very unsafe speeds throughout the Willows. Alternatives must be sought.

To date I've seen drivers traveling too fast (the majority of the issue), not paying attention (looking at their phones), or just downright being rude (yelling at me when I ask them to slow down or yelling at the kids playing and riding their bikes). The situation is not a mere annoyance, but it is down-right dangerous.

I don't know what to do and the issue appears intractable. It's to the point where I feel like I have given up, and at times I consider moving. This isn't fair to anyone!

We need the reduction in cut-through and unsafe traffic in the Willows to be a city transportation goal for 2017 and we require resources to be specifically included in the city's work plans for 2017. This cannot wait until next year, this has to be started right now!

As a neighborhood we are compelled to work collaboratively with the city to support this work to reduce unsafe traffic and increased cut-through traffic. We all want and KNOW things can be different. My neighbors and I want meaningful change, not simply a nod of acknowledgement. We will work with you, and together, to resolve this issue!

Sincerely,

The Knitter Family
Brandon, Angie, Zac and Natalie
