Sanctuary City status

It has come to my attention that this topic is again coming before the City
Council. I urge you not to declare Menlo Park a Sanctuary City. We do not
need to put the city at odds with the current federal administration for no
good reason. Without declaring Menlo Park a Sanctuary City we can still
carry out a program that treats immigrants fairly and use best judgement on
who to report to ICE and who not to. I think we all want a safe community
and would agree that someone committing a felony or a serious misdemeanor
should be reported while reporting someone for a traffic violation or petty
theft would be silly and counterproductive. I think we can accomplish the
same goals without the potential loss of federal funds and the possibility
of have to go to court to restore those funds by having a non-binding policy
and guidance in place for the police that uses common sense.

Please vote against Menlo Park as a Sanctuary City.
