Commissions, Boards and Committees - applicants

Honorable Mayor and Council Members,
When the process of recruiting qualified and interested applicants to Menlo
 Park Commissions, Boards and Committees becomes challenging, resulting in
weeks or months of waiting until applicants come along, you may wish to
consider modifying the selection criteria from RESIDENTS only, to Residents
and PROPERTY TAX Payers as well. Both groups have a significant sake in the
For years, the city has limited its consideration of applicants to those
that have the right to VOTE in Menlo Park, while those that live out of town,
 but potentially work in Menlo Park (perhaps for 20-30 years) or own
property in Menlo Park are excluded.
When the pool of applicants are in large numbers, having only residents
apply may work well; however, finding the BEST APPLICANTS sometimes takes
months to find, may result in your considering re-evaluating this policy.
Perhaps it is an idea whose time has come.
