Margarita-

On behalf of MP Bicycle Commission, I offer "you are welcome." Thank you for speaking up and bringing your safety concerns to our attention. It's so important for us to hear your concerns and understand your experience to make improvements.

As you may know, Marsh Road is broken up into multiple jurisdictions in terms of responsibility. MP Transportation Commission held a joint meeting with Atherton's Transportation Commission on January 11, 2017. A video of the meeting should be available in the archives soon if you'd like to watch/hear them discuss the idea of lanes for bicyclists on Middlefield and Marsh Roads.

Thank you for riding your bike!

Cindy

Hello,

I am very sorry that I was not able to attend the meeting in July. Ironically, I was traveling abroad in the country which had awesome bike lanes in a very busy city.

I wanted to know what is the status of Marsh Rd between Prge and Bay rd as far as improving bike safety?

If you think it can help, I would love to come to the meeting in August if there is space on the agenda for me to talk for maybe 5 minutes about this issues.

It would be really great to see something done soon. At least "Share the road" signage. I understand establishment of bike lanes takes time and money.

Sincerely,

Margarita Bekker

Margarita-

Thank you for your email. I have heard many complaints about Marsh Road from other people and personally avoid it after trying to ride on it a few times. I understand that's not an option for many people. It is also the most direct route to access the public open space at the east end of Marsh Road.

I will add "Marsh Road issues" to our agenda for an upcoming meeting Bicycle Commission meeting so we can discuss it. We meet the 2nd Monday of each month from 7-9pm and you are welcome to come for the beginning and speak about your concerns during the public comment portion of any of our Bicycle Commission meetings.

I also encourage you to send an email with your concerns directly to our City Councilpersons at councilmail_at_(domainremoved)

Thank you for reaching out and advocating for improvement. Your voice is VERY IMPORTANT and needs to be heard to make Menlo Park a safe and hospitable place for people to ride bicycles.

Best-

Subject: Bike Safety on Marsh Road

Hello,

I am writing to you to alert you to issues on Marsh rd

I live in Friendly Acres and bike on Marsh Rd (wich belongs to Menlo Park) between Page St and Bay Rd . Bay Rd has an awesome bike lane but when I am on Marsh Rd, I feel like I am risking my life. I was almost hit on three separate occasions today and this is not even a record.

The problem if that there is no bike lane. I can’t stay all the way to the right on Marsh Rd because many cars are making a right turn to Florence. Getting over to the left when it is time to make left on Bay is scary proposition. The current construction made it all ten times worse than before.

When I commute home an d I make left into Marsh I am often harassed by drivers honking and yelling me , "This is not a bike lane".

Many high school student commute to Menlo Atherton school from Friendly Acres as well adults who are biking to work at Menlo Park, Palo Alto, and Stanford.

I hope something can be done now before someone dies on this stretch Marsh Rd between Hoover and Bay rd?

I have been in touch with Nagaya, Nicole who suggested that I contact her. She exmaplined ot me that there are funding issues but that City of Menlo PArk would consider putting "Share the Road" signs on Marsh Rd as starts.

I am interested in knowing if I, as daily byciclyst commuter can do something to help with safety improvement..

Warm REgards,

Margarita Bekker
