sanctuary city?

Honorable Councilmembers,

With the emotions involved since the recent election, you are being
asked to declare a "sanctuary city". As you too want to make a
statement, I hope you will do so as a declaration of values, and a
rejection of prejudice and malice.

But as cooler heads may look ahead, an actual ordinance could
complicate funding for our emergency services, perhaps other funding
as well. Like it or not, we depend on federal funds filtering down
to us. Is this risk necessary to make our statement? Are we
protecting the vulnerable this way? It took ten years to get the
Belle Haven substation open and restore traffic patrols.

Please consider carefully how our city declares its values tonight.
