roads we need and safe routes

Honorable Councilmembers,

During the five year process of the downtown specific plan, staff and
commissions ensured that bicycle routes were identified as part of
the hoped=for renewal of our downtown. Tonight I hope you will
finalize approval of the 1300 ECR project, which will open up Derry
Lane through Garwood and finally provide a safe bike route
alternative to the busy commercial highway El Camino.

Along with the new Oak Grove and MIddle Ave bike lanes and multiple
new designations citywide, you are developing a much improved bike
lane system. Gladly, there is no conflict between the goals of
safety and traffic flow... as long as our collectors and arteries
remain the primary carriers of cars and trucks so the neighborhoods
and designated bike routes are not invaded by cut through traffic.
Its common sense that fully functioning arterial/ collector system -
and please, 21st C intersections - are absolutely necessary to avoid
the cut-throughs.
