Safe Routes to Schools

Dear Mayor Keith and Menlo Park City Council Members,

I have been very appreciative of the work the City and School District have done together over the last year on a variety of challenging issues, and I am grateful that we have been able to find collaborative solutions. I understand the City is developing its goals for 2017 and has many projects and plans to consider with limited resources; it is certainly a paradigm with which the School Board is well acquainted.

I am hopeful that as discussed in the fall of 2016, the City Council places on its goals and budgets funding towards a Safe Routes to School Study, including those routes throughout the city that impact all of our schools, and specifically those routes in the Willows area that encompass Menlo Atherton HS, Laurel School (Lower and Upper Campus), Alto School, and Willow Oaks School. Ensuring safe walking and biking routes in this area of town, and throughout Menlo Park, will reduce traffic and provide safety to thousands of students. The Menlo Park City School District is ready to work with the City to ensure our students can safely walk and bike to school.

Warm Regards,

Stacey Jones
President
MPCSD Board of Trustees
