Marsh Road - Joint Powers Board

Honorable Mayor and Council Members:
Has the City ever considered forming a Marsh Road - Joint Powers Board
The JPB could consist of the government agencies that have jurisdiction for
part of this multi-agency thorough fare. Potential agencies may include
1) City of Menlo Park
2) Town of Atherton
3) County of San Mateo, and
4) Other jurisdictions.
As you know, gridlock is becoming the order of the day, particularly during
the twice a day commute to and from work. This affects many lives, in a
variety of ways. One concern is access for emergency vehicles, such as
ambulances, fire district, police and others. When traffic comes to a standstill,
its hard on the environment, it slows everyones travel time and for many,
shatters their nerves.
No doubt the issues are complex. However, if there is a will there is a
way. If the resolve is strong enough, progress can be made.
As is often said, there is strength in numbers. Coming together to discuss
issues of common interest can and often results in progress. Perhaps a
Study Session inviting the stakeholders would be a first step. Frankly, doing
nothing is not an option.
