Oak Grove Bike Route--weak links to consider [clarification]

Dear Councilmembers,

As a follow-up to my earlier email, I'd like to clarify that I am
wholeheartedly in support of implementing the current Oak
Grove-University-Crane plan. The bike commission did not have the
opportunity to formally review the plan that is being submitted to council.
But at this point in the process, it is important that we all keep our eye
on the prize: to get students safely across El Camino Real and Middlefield
Road.

I do think the plan would be greatly improved by replacing the on-street
parking on the blocks of Crane directly approaching Santa Cruz Ave (a
relatively few 22 parking spots in favor of dedicated bike lanes), and
exchanging back-out parking for parallel parking along Santa Cruz Ave.
However, please take my previous comments as suggestions for the future,
rather than hold up implementation of the pilot.

Again, it is critical that we move forward now to help students with the
most dangerous part of their bike route, and the Oak Grove-University-Crane
plan will definitely do that.

Thanks,

Lydia Lee
MP resident, parent, bicycle commissioner
