To Anyone Concerned,

I have read in The Almanac that the City Council has gone from lending the money for a private business venture to buying the building. I cannot understand why the city council is so intent on getting into the real estate business for the benefit of a private business and I cannot condone any of the City Council’s actions or any of the Mayor’s actions in pursuing this venture.

It’s my guess that the reason this building has sat empty since 2002 is that the numbers don’t work. It’s also my guess that if Tom Hilligoss doesn’t purchase the building it’s because the numbers don’t work. If the paper is correct about the city being asked to pay for unanticipated costs in the conversion to a dance studio and no financial protection if the Academy of Dance goes out of business I feel you’re writing a BLANK CHECK with my money.

All numbers and projections and payments and financial agreements aside, Menlo Park should not be spending anything, including time, on this venture. It is private property and a private business. And please don’t wave the historic building flag. It’s a building that is vacant because no one can come up with a viable business for the spot. And when the numbers work out that a business can survive there, then it will. Do not use my money to build a false floor to prop up someone’s business.

Do not get involved with this building.

Sincerely,

Bill Senner
