Re: Ban on drones for Bedwell Bayfront Park

Honorable Council Members

Please consider the reasons so many residents oppose allowing
recreational drones to fly at Bedwell Bayfront Park.

Above all this is one of the few places where local residents can feel
serenity. This is especially true now, in a hard economy, so much
political turmoil and fear all around.

The park is a peaceful refuge for both people and wildlife. It is
within range of small planes using the P.A. airport, it is in an area
where migrating birds, many of them endangered species, stop off in
large flocks, then set out on hundreds of miles of flight. Even one
drone zooming around causes noise pollution and havoc, but letting this
become a place where drones are routinely allowed will completely
undermine the park's reason for being there.

Recreational use of these drones can be just as much fun in large spaces
put aside for them alone. There are many possibilities. Alternate sites
should be posted and also provide by a staff member, ideally a park
ranger, who would be able to redirect anyone wanting to fly a drone.

There would be incremental cost for a ranger, but that ideal option can
also begin an interim approach immediately with proper signs and
information provided on kiosks. Prominent signs would need to be at all
entry points.

Please take these thoughts into consideration, even if the meeting is
taking place, please add this letter to those opposing allowing the drones.

Thank you for your attention,

Mary Jane (Parrine) Ehmke
