TO: Menlo Park City Council Members

RE: Menlo Park Community Center Upgrade

  Dear Councilmember:

Over the past several years, we have seen the completion of the following projects, made possible by Menlo Park tax payers through a bond issue:

  1.) City Hall
  2.) Gymnastic Center
  3.) Baseball/Soccer Field complex
  4.) Police Station
  5.) Skateboard Park
  6.) Tennis Courts
  7.) Swimming Pool complex
  8.) Child Care Facility

The Recreation/Community Center is outdated and inadequate and should be added to this list. My daughter and my neighbor’s children have attended dance classes and after-school programs there.

It has come to my attention that plans are in the works for the City of Menlo Park to participate in the renovation of the “Park Theatre” with the Menlo Park Academy of Dance (a private enterprise) as sole tenant.

I think it’s outrageous that the City Council would consider the allocation of public funds to a private venue…all the while claiming there are no funds to update our Community Center.

Please use these funds to turn our aging Burgess Park facility into a cultural and recreational paradise benefiting all residents and program participants.

  Best regards,

  John Brady
