Commission Meeting Dates, a Duplication

Honorable Mayor and Council Members,
Would it be possible for the Commission meeting dates to be scheduled so
that there is NOT a duplication? At present, by and large, the
1) Housing Commission, and the
2) Planning Commission meet on the same day, at the same time (1st Monday
of the month, at 7 pm).
3) Bicycle Commission, and the
4) Library Commission meet on the same day, at approx. the same time (2nd
Monday of the month), and
5) Environmental Quality Commission, and the
6) Parks and Recreation Commission meet on the same day, at the same time
(6:30 pm on the 4th Wed.).
While in may not make much difference, depending on the agenda items, on
some occasions if may serve as an IMPEDIMENT and deterrence and obstruction
to the political process. To intentionally do this, when you have a choice,
results in one questioning the system.
With 30 calendar days in the month, and perhaps 20 or so working days,
certainly a hand full of Commissions can choose dates that are NOT in conflict
with other Commissions. If you are trying to encourage political
participation and community engagement there may be a better way.
If you agree, perhaps the members of the duplicate commission meetings can
discuss if another meeting date is mutually convenient. My hunch is, the
answer will be yes.
