O'Connor & Walnut Safe Route....

I also attended the Transportation meeting last night. I wanted to share
one other thought relative to making Walnut a safe route. It struck me at
that meeting that we heard absolutely nothing from parents who have
children attending Willow Oaks. This absence and the lack of consideration
given to them is far too common in meetings such as these. Nonetheless, at
present large numbers of Ravenswood students from O'Keefe, O'Connor, and
Euclid areas use O'Connor/Walnut to walk/bike to school, traversing the
non-sidewalk areas on O'Connor (south and north sides), continuing on
Walnut, and crossing the unsafe one way stop on Central, enroute to Willow
Oaks School or M-A. It is clearly the shortest and fastest pedestrian route
with minimal vehicular traffic. A safe passage for these students
travelling on Walnut should have been created years ago (sidewalks on
O'Connor, 4-way stop at Central/Walnut). Hopefully the opening of the Upper
Laurel School will lead to a re-evaluation of this sobering gap in safety
for schoolchildren of Menlo Park, even those that don't belong to the
MPCSD. Thank you very much for your time.

Best regards,

Rafael Ornes
