bike lanes on Gilbert

Dear City Council Members,

Thank you for your consideration of safe transportation options for the
soon-to-be-open Laurel upper campus. We live on Marmona Drive and hope our
4th grader will be able to bicycle to school.

Perhaps because Gilbert is a relatively wide street and a central
entry/exit route for the Willows, there's a pretty large volume of traffic,
which sometimes goes quite fast. I believe it would hugely improve safety
if there were dedicated bike lanes on Gilbert. Bike lanes would not only
provide a space where drivers would expect to see bicycles but also serve
to narrow the road, which often reduces speed.

I'm sure there are many considerations here, but a physical demarcation of
the bike lanes would be great. A lesser option but still good would be
those really bright markings that seem to be more prevalent now.

Thanks so much for considering the possibility of dedicated bike lanes on
Gilbert. As a member of the neighborhood, I would really love to see
bicycling as a safe and frequently used option for our local school.

Kind regards,
Lisl Shoda
