city employee raises

Council members,

Menlo Park is about to raise salaries for city employees to keep up w
peninsula cities, notably Redwood City and Palo Alto. Burlingame is
considering raising salaries to keep up with its neighbors. There is
a pattern here that began in 2007 that one could call leap-frog. But
most residents, who pay for these salaries and lifetime benefits,
don't enjoy the same spiral increases in income.

The revenue base from which you will draw to pay these salaries is
the money that was to catch up on the deferred maintenance of the
last decade, while the economy is good. Please don't give away that
revenue while there is so much to be done.
