>>>>>> I live in the Menlo Oaks Area of Menlo Park, just blocks from the VA. I find it appalling and inexcusable that there is such disregard for saving the amazing Heritage Oak trees which are to be cut down to make a recreational area for the patients. The adjoining properties will certainly be impacted by this. These trees are indigenous to our area. They are drought resistant and provide shade and oxygen to the VA patients and our community. Please reevaluate this plan and build a recreation area which will incorporate these amazing trees!

>>>>>> While I know that legally the VA is federal and can do what it wants I also know that our taxpayer dollars pay for everything done. My husband Herb Wong, a vet, went to this facility for much of his care. He recently passed. But he was an avid environmentalist and would be horrified by this turn of events. He "cried" when we had to remove a diseased tree from our property. He missed the amazing bird life that came to visit our yard. Turn these patients into "birders" and they will look forward to being out with nature and perhaps seeing life as they have never seen it before. Being at one with nature is a very healing process! And biding is a world wide recreational experience enjoyed by millionsI I am sure that there are people/agencies that would help in this endeavor! Contact me and I will help move this "birding" experience along!
