Heritage & Old-Growth Oaks Removal at the VA in Menlo Park

Hello Council Members,   I just received information from my local "Neighborhood" group that there will be a large number of heritage & old growth Oak trees to be removed at the Veterans Administration grounds in Menlo Park.  This is apparently in the planning for a recreation area on these grounds.  I am wondering if the VA has received appropriate permits in order to accomplish the tree removal?  I remember when I needed to have a couple of large pine trees removed from my yard for safety reasons I had to have the Menlo Park arborist look at the job, and approve it.   I then had to pay a permit fee per tree.  I also notified my neighbors when the trees would be removed, as a courtesy. I am wondering if the VA/ City of Menlo Park has also been required to do this?     I am also wondering if this tree removal was ever on an agenda of the Menlo Park council?  I think that the Menlo Park residents would have liked to be more informed of this project, if they have not yet been, by the City.  I believe alot must be considered before heritage trees and especially old-growth oaks are to be considered for removal.   I am anticipating hearing from the Council to learn more details of the tree removal in the VA.Thank you,Jeannie Buscaglia924 Peggy LaneMenlo Park
