Please stop the Old Growth Oaks Removal at the VA!

I am a new resident of the Willows neighborhood in Menlo Park. One of the
big reasons my family and I picked Menlo Park to purchase a house in, to
send our young kids to school in, because it's a city that cares about the
environment. We moved here from barren Sunnyvale, literally 15 minutes away
and so much hotter because it has not invested in planting trees to build
up their urban canopy. Menlo Park is a gem. The news that the VA is going
to remove the old-growth oak trees for purposes of building a recreational
area, is shocking to me. We should be doing everything we can to keep these
old trees around - they keep the air clean, keep our city so much cooler
than other cities even a few miles south, are powerhouses in absorbing
greenhouse emissions and of course they keep our city absolutely beautiful.
I am sure you agree!

I understand the VA is on Federal land and they do not need to respect city
rule, but we do pay more than our fair share of taxes and they owe us a
conversation on what we can do together to come up with a different plan,
one that does not involve removing these giants. Please do push the VA to
stop this plan. This cannot be the path forward. I'm optimistic that we can
work something out with them!

Thank you,
