To the Council:
I would like to urge the members of the Council to support restoration of
the Park Theater, and to give full consideration to the plan proposed by Mr.
Duncan. If financial assistance from the city is not feasible, I see the
logical source of those funds to be Mr. Crittendon who was responsible for
the damage in the first place. In any case, I believe that preservation of
this landmark is a goal that is shared widely in the community and I hope it
can be achieved.
I'd also like to make a comment about the dance studio. This institution
serves hundreds of Menlo Park children, many on scholarship. It is hardly a
private club for wealthy families. In a city where support for youth sports
is sacrosanct, I'd like to see comparable attention to the arts. It strikes
me that the arrangement with Tim Sheeper is an example of the city
subsidizing a private enterprise for public benefit.
Thanks for your consideration.
