El Camino Real

Dear City Council,
I understand there is a city council meeting on May 3rd regarding decisions related to El Camino Real, including whether to put in a bike lane on El Camino Real.  As a citizen of Menlo Park and cycling enthusiast I wanted to provide my feedback.
I have a road bike that I enjoy riding through Menlo Park, Portola Valley and Woodside.  I do not use it to commute but I enjoy riding on the week-end and appreciate the bike lanes that are available.  That being said, I do not believe a bike lane on El Camino is necessary or prudent.  The traffic on El Camino is horrendous and with its curb cuts, driveways, buses, businesses, and traffic it is obviously not a safe bike route.  In addition there are better north south alternatives (i.e., Middlefield) for getting around on a bicycle than El Camino.
I do not believe a study or advisory initiative is needed or advisable to determine whether Menlo Park should build a bike lane on El Camino.  I believe it is obvious that El Camino Real is not a good road for a bike lane.
