Please move forward with bike lanes on ECR

Dear City Council members,

I just returned from an East Coast trip, where I was impressed with the
renewed vibrancy of several urban centers that I remember previously being
clogged with car traffic. Was it because places like Boston, New York, and
Baltimore are expanding capacity for cars in their downtowns? Nope. The
renewed vibrancy and street life is occurring because those cities are
improving their bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and thus helping to
get their residents out of their cars. The changes are palpable and
inspirational.

Your traffic study has already shown that removing parking and adding bike
lanes to ECR will not have a significant impact on peak traffic flow.
Please don't wait for action from our neighboring cities or listen to the
dittoheads from Menlo Park's Past. Instead, please direct your staff to
move forward as soon as possible with Alternative 2, adding buffered bike
lanes to El Camino Real, as your preferred alternative. Let's be leaders
for a change.

Thanks,

Dave Roise
