Council Members,
Am sorry I will be on a jobsite when you meet mid-afternoon to re-
examine budget priorities. Please accept a simple request in that
regard.
Our city has long deferred the basics of infrastructure maintenance;
as examples, our roads have deteriorated to needing not only surface
patching but foundation base rebuild, and recreation facilities and
many other public spaces are shabby, in spite of a hefty budget
surplus this year. Until Public Works can respond with something
better than "there's no money for that", we clearly cannot afford to
take on new projects, no matter the good intentions.
Please, for 2008, let's prove we can get our house in order first.
