RE: Lead in MP water

Hi Vince,

Thank you for your email and forwarding the link to the USA Today article on lead in water systems where it was reported that Menlo Park had a testing result of 76.9 ppb (parts per billion) for lead at one source. It appears that the reporting may be in error.

As with all water providers, Menlo Park Municipal Water District is required to perform lead and copper monitoring every three years. In 2012, we took samples from household taps as required by the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act's Lead and Copper Rule. Our 90th percentile lead results were 2 ppb, well below the lead action level of 15 ppb. Our 90th percentile copper results were 76.9 ppb, well below the copper action level of 1300 ppb. We believe the USA Today article may have mistakenly reported the 90th percentile copper results instead of the 90th percentile lead results. We intend to reach out to USA Today to seek a clarification regarding the data source for the article.

For your convenience, I am including a link to our testing results as published in the annual Consumer Confidence Report, which was made available to all water customers last summer. http://www.menlopark.org/DocumentCenter/Home/View/7583

I would like to note errors in two footnotes (numbers 9 and 10) related to the Copper and Lead testing. The second sentence in each footnote should begin with "Zero out of..." to read as follows:

Zero out of 38 site samples collected at consumer taps had lead concentrations above the AL [Action Level].

We want to assure our Menlo Park Municipal Water District customers that the system meets all applicable State and Federal safe drinking water requirements.

If you have any follow up questions, please contact Public Works Director Justin Murphy at JICMurphy_at_(domainremoved)

Hi Alex,

Are you aware of this?

I don't know if this is MP water and/or Cal Water in our city.
