Dear Ms. Fogarty,?

The Transportation Division is currently evaluating the crosswalk at Santa Cruz and Lemon and looking for near-term and long-term potential modifications. We have reviewed the landscaping at the intersection and are working with our maintenance team to trim some of the landscaping to ensure the existing signage is visible and also to improve night time visibility. We will also be repainting the yellow crosswalk lines. The City is currently developing a Citywide crosswalk policy and prioritization plan. Longer term, the policy will determine the type of crosswalk enhancements based on the vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle volumes, speeds, and collision history. There are several measures of crosswalk enhancements that we can consider including signage, additional striping and pavement markings, and some type of lighted crosswalk. With the exception of the lighted crosswalk (due to significant cost of the improvements), staff can recommend and install these types of enhancements.

Thank you for your email,
