RE: Fremont St/Middle Ave. intersection!

Hi Councilmember Keith and Ms. Shorum,

The Transportation Division is completing a sight distance evaluation at the Fremont/Middle intersection as you suggested. If the intersection does not meet sight distance standards, we typically will first look for ways to remove the obstruction. This may include strategies like trimming landscaping, tree branches, etc. or removing parking near the intersection. We will let you know the results of our preliminary review, in approximately 2 weeks.

Thank you,
Nikki

Hi Nancy,

Thank you for your email. Nikki, we would appreciate your response to this issue. Is removing two parking spaces an option, or is there something else that may be done?

Thank you.

Hi

I'm a long time resident on Fremont Street and a school teacher in PA. My morning commute takes me down Fremont Street to Middle Ave intersection and left heading towards the El Camino Real.

It's gotten very dangerous to make a left hand turn onto Middle, between 7-8am due to numerous cars parked on street, blocking visibility for other on coming traffic-- vehicles, runners, and bike commuters most importantly children on their bikes heading to school. In a car you're forced to inch out into the street to look both ways with cars coming at both directions, horns honking, etc. Add children on bikes, bikers, walkers, runners as well. It's not an easy left hand turn and scary too.

I'm very curious if others have mentioned this to you. I don't recall this being so bad in past years, until last few years. I'm wondering if you can look into eliminating 2 parked car (spaces) at that intersection, permanently to avoid inevitable collision and unnecessary danger for all. This way everyone can see each other!

I appreciate you looking into this!

Thanks, Nancy Shorum
