Fwd: Parking Tickets in Downtown Menlo Park 2-4-2016

Dear City Council,
I have lived in Menlo Park for over 25 years and park often in downtown
Menlo Park. In the last year and a half, the Menlo Park Parking Ticket
staff has clearly been aggressively ticketing. Today, I walked into to buy
$100 worth of groceries at Trader Joe's today and walked out to find a $45
parking ticket because my tire was slightly on the white line. There have
been times in the last year when I was parked on Santa Cruz Ave in Menlo
Park in the 1 hour zone and returned to my car in under an hour and still
received a ticket for being over the time limit. Suffice to say, this is
not good for the businesses in Menlo Park where we the residents, shop at,
bank with and support on a regular basis. This blatant over ticketing may
generate revenue for the City of Menlo Park, but the policy makes it really
difficult on the residents and the community. We don't have the time to
risk our jobs by leaving them for a day in order to fight frivolous parking
tickets in the courts, so we are essentially forced to pay them. I really
hope you will look into this matter, I am very sure I am not the first
person or the last to complain about this policy of aggressive ticking of
the public and the Menlo Park Community by the Menlo Park Parking Staff.
Thank you for considering reviewing this issue and please consider this my
request to speak with you in person regarding this matter.
Very truly yours,
Cynthia Spanner
