RE: Gilbert Ave. Traffic

Dear Council Members

As a resident of Gilbert Ave. for > 45 years, I share the concerns about the current traffic situation. However, I suggest an expanded technical review be given to the proposed stop sign at the Central intersect. Once again it appears to perpetuate the non-logic of Gilbert Ave. stop sign placement resembling what exists at the “Marmona & driveway” intersect with Gilbert. The latter was part of a traffic-calming project some years ago that included a roundabout at Pope & Gilbert – a non-functional, flawed concept eventually removed.

Note: The Central intersect is a short block from a 3-way stop at Menalto. The Marmona stop is a short block from signal control at Willow.

I suggest a four-way stop at the Pope & Gilbert intersect which is mid-way would be more effective in controlling speed and promote safety. I have witnessed numerous “near accidents” at this location when drivers assume it is a four-way stop.

Your consideration is appreciated.
