Supporting 100% Renewable Energy through PCE

Honorable Mayor and Council Members,

I support Menlo Park Joining the Peninsula Clean Energy CCA to provide cleaner power options to utility customers.
Thank you for pursuing this valuable opportunity to provide a way for Menlo Park residents and businesses to meet their climate goals.

In order to make this opportunity most useful for Greenhouse gas reduction, customers will need a default option with 100% renewable energy.
Whatever the default option is, most customers will stay with it. Therefore you can help most customer achieve 100% renewable energy by making it the default option.

For customers unwilling or unable to pay the small premium for the 100% clean energy there are easy options to opt out of the default renewable energy portfolio.
For low income customers, the rate assistance program will still be available saving them 30% on their bills and they can stay with 100% renewable or opt down.

The most important reason to have the 100% renewable option be the default option is it then allows customers who stay with it to simply and completely decarbonize most of their driving and most of their water heating and space heating. The 100% renewable electricity is the crucial stepping stone to decarbonizing transportation, water heating and space heating.

Thank you for considering this suggestion.
