Nealon dog park move

Dear City Council Members,

I am writing about the recent news of the Nealon dog park move. I have two
small children who play at Nealon nearly every day. I was so disappointed
to hear this news as it will dramatically change the character of the park.

Having a wide open grassy field to play in spurs their imagination and
provides such a wonderful experience. They run races, play tag, kick soccer
balls, hit the t-ball, gather sticks to make pretend firepits, play
explorers, etc, etc. On weekdays the space is usually filled with little
kids and on weekends the space is packed families out playing.

I can definitely appreciate that there's a need to move the dog park to a
dedicated space off of the softball field, but I ask that you please
consider alternative spaces that aren't so well loved and used by families
in our community. The unused space between Middle Ave and the tennis courts
at Nealon seems like it would make a great choice. Even splitting the
grassy space would be so much better than taking it away completely.

Thanks for your consideration,
Kate Piper
