Support for Oak Grove - University Bike Boulevard

Dear City Council Members and Staff,
Iım writing in support of the Bicycle Commission proposed Oak Grove
University Bike Boulevard, which is also supported by the Transportation and
Environmental Commissions. The Bicycle Commission has carefully crafted
this route, which will make it safer for kids to bike to school and creates
a more pleasant bike route for everyone to use.

Getting kids to school safely is a priority, and thereıs no better way to do
it than by bicycle as long as there are safe routes. The proposed routes
have a lot of benefits that outweigh the minor loss of on-street parking:
* Every additional bike on the road may be replacing a car, which relieves
traffic congestion and reduces greenhouse gases and other pollution.
* Safe routes allow more kids to bike to school or other activities, helping
them develop independence and learn a healthy, active lifestyle.
* Safe bike routes are an amenity that make living in Menlo Park more
pleasant, providing more choices for people to get around.
Biking isnıt for everyone, but for those who want to, letıs make it safe for
them. The City of Menlo Park already has plenty of parking, with more
planned if a garage is built. Please donıt let a few on-street parking
spaces get in the way of safe routes to school. I hope you will bring this
important proposal for full consideration soon and act quickly to implement
a pilot.

Thank you!!
Diane Bailey, Executive Director
