Proposal to lengthen parking time downtown

Dear City Council,

I would like to express my support for the proposed time extension from 2 to 3 hours in the lots downtown and from 1 to 2 hours on the street. The current time allowed does not permit potential customers enough time to combine any other activity, such as having lunch, with plans to shop. It is imperative that we continue to provide a friendly “village-like” atmosphere in Menlo Park. The availability of free parking is key to fostering a positive shopping experience. Alternately, nothing is more harmful than returning to your car to find a ticket, simply because you stopped to shop for something you have seen in a window display.

I have owned a business for the past 25 years on Santa Cruz Avenue, and I have personal experience of our customers’ dismay and dissatisfaction with the current parking policies and aggressive enforcement. Please allow us a fighting chance to be competitive and continue to draw customers to our town. Help make a visit to Menlo Park an enjoyable experience.

Best regards,

Stephen Miller
