Ban "backpack" blowers immediately!

To the City Council, Menlo Park, CA:

I request that the City Council address the issue of backpack blower use in Menlo Park and institute a complete ban on all blower use in our city.

The very recent article in The Almanac prompts me to again attempt to improve the Menlo Park environment through City Council action or ballot initiative to ban all (gas and electric) yard and hard surface blowers in the City.

Since moving to Menlo Park a little over two years ago, the backpack blower use has been a major disappointment in the Menlo Park environment.

Some factors to consider:

Blowers are a health risk. The Almanac article lists many of the health risks.
(referenced article: http://www.almanacnews.com/news/2015/08/31/air-district-report-leaf-blowers-present-health-risks)

Blowers are a safety hazard. For example, try riding by on your bike and attempt to ride safely and avoid being in the blast of the blowers.

Importantly, the overall environment of Menlo Park is significantly degraded by this unnecessary excessive noise.

I hope that the City Council addresses this issue ASAP.

Thank you in advance,

Norm Harris
