The Chestnut popup park verdict is in - it's a Fail

Dear Councilmembers,

When the Council proposed that Chestnut Ave. be turned into a plaza/piazza/park I predicted that traffic flow and safety would be negatively affected.

Well, is there any data suggesting otherwise?

Where is someone trying to drive northwest from Menlo Ave. supposed to negotiate Santa Cruz Ave. safely? Curtis, Crane and Evelyn St's. all enter uncontrolled intersections with Santa Cruz. Are we supposed to use only University and Doyle or El Camino to get across town now? Chestnut was our favored route across or onto Santa Cruz Ave. for our own safety and the safety of pedestrians when driving from the Menlo Ave. area to our house near Valparaiso and Johnson. That favored route isn't an option until this experiment has run its course.

We are happy that this is just an experiment.

We are not in favor of it becoming a regular feature.
