My Dear Fellow Citizens on the Menlo Park City Council.

An email from Lee Duboce tells me that you will be considering options for ECR and invite comments from citizens. I qualify as a citizen. I am 98 and still functioning. I have life experience and judgement and have lived in the Palo Alto/Menlo Park neighborhood for 75 years (with 5 years out for WWII), and 30 of those years were spent on the Bench as a Superior Court Judge - either Regular Term or Assigned or by Stipulation.

So hereís my take. Itís crazy to put bike lanes on ECR. You are just inviting any biker injured to make the City a Defendant in any action for personal injuries on the theory that your action created an known dangerous situation - and such a claim would, I think, be correct. And every one of you know a bike lane on ECR would be and is a danger. So why do it? Given the situation the bikers have to go elsewhere - or not at all. Their choice. Not yours.

Given that ECR traffic is intolerable the only thing to do is to eliminate parking and add a lane - and build garages a la Palo Alto in Midtown.

        And Good Luck!!
