Bike Lanes on El Camino

I just received an email notifying me that you will soon be discussing the
addition of bike lanes on El Camino.

Sadly, the email seemed to be putting that plan in a rather negative light.
In my opinion, adding bike lanes on El Camino is a fabulous idea,
particularly the idea of a buffered bike lane.

Forcing bikers to out of the way routes decreases the number of people who
travel by bike because they can no longer easily get where they want to go.
For example, without biking on El Camino, it is rather difficult and
convoluted to get to the Menlo Park Safeway by bike.

The bay area, with it's year-round excellent biking weather, should be one
of the best places in the world to bike commute, but, so far, it's been
sadly lacking in the kind of bicycle infrastructure that would encourage
that. Putting in buffered bike lanes on El Camino would be a great step
towards creating a community that treats biking as a method of transit
rather than just a rare recreational pursuit.

I'm looking forward to what will hopefully be the first of many
improvements to the Menlo Park bicycle infrastructure.
