Airbnb in Menlo Park?

Dear City Council Members,

At some future point, if this has not come up before the council already, I think it would be a good idea to discuss Airbnb in Menlo Park and have a policy for same. I looked today at the Airbnb website and I saw 1,000+ listings for Menlo Park at the Airbnb website. The link is below.

My search was prompted by a neighbor's concern about an Airbnb operation on the street where I live due to increased traffic and people coming/going in a quiet neighborhood. (This is a neighborhood near the new Mariott Hotel that replaced the Glenwood Inn.) Our neighborhood has also experienced increased crime (a break in) that -- of course -- may or may not be linked to Airbnb. People living in Menlo Park may value their privacy and may not like the idea of a business being operated on their residential street, which is the essence of Airbnb. Of course, there are other issues to consider too such as what the hotel owners think.

As use of Airbnb seems to be increasing, I think an official policy on this will be needed soon -- after suitable citizen input (of course).
