writing in support of proposal to install bike lanes in Menlo Park

Hello,I'm a Menlo Park resident writing in support of the proposal Bill Kirsch made to install bike lanes in Menlo Park along El Camino and the Ravenswood/Menlo corridor. I would love to be able to ride bikes with my daughter to Encinal School along a much safer route than what currently exists. I work in Public Health, and within this context we think of safer routes to schools and downtown areas as a way to not only decrease injuries for those traveling on bikes and walking, but also as a way to promote health. In fact, added bike lanes (and other interventions to make biking and walking safer and more appealing) is now a widely recognized strategy to encourage physical activity and decrease/prevent childhood obesity (http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/obesity-prevention-source/obesity-causes/physical-activity-environment/).Thanks for your attention and support of this important proposal.Best regards,April Watson
