Simpler Suggestion for Train Crossings in Menlo Park

Dear Rene Baile, other members of the Transportation Committee and City
Council members:

An even simpler solution may be to have electronic signs indicating time to
next train crossing. The signs would be placed where drivers at the four
corners of the Ravenswood intersection with Caltrain can see them. If
drivers see the sign indicating a train is coming in less than 2 minutes,
they are more likely to wait until there is space on the other side rather
than sit on the crossing waiting for the light on El Camino to change.

The train platforms have signs with timing data indicating train times and
current status, e.g. on time, arriving, 5 mins late, so the information
needed is already being broadcast and could be put in a form to let drivers
know what is coming before the gates go down.

Thank you,

Eileen Lehmann
