RE: drones at Flood park

Nancy,

As you may be aware, Flood Park is a County owned and controlled park and therefore the City has limited control over park activities. However, we have been made aware of concerns with drones being flown at Bedwell Bayfront Park and we are floating the idea of a restrictions on drones and other remotely controlled devices at Bedwell Bayfront Park. Additionally, the FAA has released draft guidance for a 5 nautical mile restriction on drones (exempting emergency services and other FAA approved flights) surrounding airports. When the FAA's guidance takes affect we believe that it will fully encompass all of Menlo Park as our City limits fall within 5 nautical miles of the Palo Alto and the San Carlos Airport.

Subject: drones at Flood park

Council,

At the recent community meeting hosted by San Mateo County there were many ideas being floated about for Flood Park. One in particular that some of the Rangers seemed especially excited about was a done landing pad. I don’t know if drones are currently being flown at Flood Park and how the proposed FAA rules might effect any county plans - but I do hope the City of Menlo Park takes an active role in discouraging drone flying so close to a residential neighborhood. Drones can be disruptive and an invasion of privacy for those City of Menlo Park residents living nearby Flood Park. Not to mention a safety concern. Obviously the plans for Flood Park are a long way off, but I was surprised that a drone landing pad is being considered as an option. Please, no.

Thank you,
Nancy Wagner
