Sprinkler restrictions

The new sprinkler restrictions are not compatible with automated sprinkler
controllers, and should be changed. Only the very newest models of
sprinkler controllers know what day of the week it is. The vast majority
can only be programmed to turn on every day, every 2nd day, every 3rd day,
etc. They cannot be programmed to match a weekly restriction cycle.

If you don't change the sprinkler restrictions, it will force residents with
automated controllers to either (1) spend a lot of money to buy and install
state-of-the-art controllers, or (2) manually turn their sprinkler valves on
and off. Running sprinklers manually is a pain in the neck for people who
have multiple zones. At my house, for instance, we have a small yard but it
is divided into 12 zones so I don't have to over-water one area in order to
get enough water to an adjacent area. Having multiple zones is very
water-efficient, but a colossal pain if you need to put on shoes and go
outside to turn them on and off one at a time.

Please, please revise this law to be friendly to automated sprinkler
controllers. Offer people the option of watering by the day of the week, or
watering every 3 or 4 days.
