Menlo Park Water District

Dear Sir:

I am writing in reference to The Almanac, issue dated April 22, 2015, article re MP Water District. It indicated that "the city plans to implement further water-use restrictions and the staff will recommend to the council that the city seek to exceed the mandated reduction". My home receives water from the California Water Service Company in the Bear Gulch district. That district faces mandatory cuts of 36 % from 2013 levels. How will that restriction be applied by the MP Council?
According to 2013 figures for the Bear Gulch district : Menlo Park municipal district uses an average of 99 gallons per person per day. Other towns in the Bear Gulch district include: Portola Valley 305 gallons ; Woodside 421 gallons ; Atherton 480 gallons.
It does not seem fair that these four separate towns would be subject to the same percentage of cutbacks. Atherton uses almost five times the amount of water as Menlo Park.

Please advise us of what decisions are being recommended for consideration by our council members. It is appropriate to have public transparency during the decision making process prior to any final restriction announcement.

Thank you for a timely response to this important concern,
Robert and Joanna Martin
