Railroad grade crossing at Ravenswood question

Dear City Council,

I recently watched the Transportation Commission meeting about the current status of the Ravenswood railroad crossings, which included a presentation from staff about grade crossing options. This presentation was similar to one I had seen watching the video of the Railroad Subcommittee meeting last month. I have a question:

Last December and January, when the CIP budget was being worked on, the Alma
Ravenswood Pedestrian - Bike Study project was removed from the plan in year 2015-16
because the City received a grant from Samtrans to complete a full vehicle study to depress
Ravenswood at the Caltrain tracks and this study would cover the pedestrian and bike
components as well.

During the presentations I have seen regarding grade crossings, no mention of this study has
been made. I wonder, because if the city does plan on depressing Ravenswood as per the
study, won’t this impact the choices we have for grade separations?

I could not find any more information about the Samtrans grant on the city’s website. Perhaps
you know the status of it.

In the meantime, I hope the grade separation project continues to move ahead and that the City Council rail policy is changed to allow for three tracks and possibly raised tracks
since this will help keep the city’s options open as we look at grade separation alternatives.

Thank you,
