Dumbarton Rail Project

Dear City Council Members,
I encourage you to take an official position opposing the Dumbarton Rail
Corridor project. In its current manifestation, the plan appears to be
archaic and short sighted. While taking cars of the road and replacing them
with mass transit seems like it would be a fine idea, utilizing 100 year-old
technology is not the best solution. Diesel engines are loud, dirty and
ineffecient compared to light rail or other forms of rapid transit. If it
is determined that we really need a train to link the east bay with the
peninsula across the Dumbarton, I encourage you to support a plan that will
utilize cleaner, quieter and more efficient modern technology, such as light
rail or electric trains.

While I do not support the rail project in any form, if the rail project is
going to go forward, I hope the City Council will back a plan that will look
to the future and embrace clean, quiet, modern and efficient technology.

Regardless of what is done, please make sure it is done right and proper
mitigation measures are taken. Please ensure that sound barriers are
errected along the tracks boardering the Suburban Park and Lorelei Manor
neighborhoods and please ensure that grade separations are constructed at
Marsh Road and Willow Road.

Warm regards,
The Kelly Family
Menlo Park
